In this week I was able to to do my photoshoot, I originally planned to have three models however in the end I only used one model. This is because I realised  having three models would be too time consuming and also confusing, by using the same model for all the pictures I wanted made the photoshoot a lot easier to do and more time effective.
The costume my model wore was a baggy shirt, ripped fish nets and some small shorts underneath, my model wore this outfit because the top doesn't let you see her figure and this shows that the media effects all types of girls big and small. She also wore fish nets to go with the theme alcohol abuse and drinking to much, but also to show that even though teenagers think they are grown up and adult like, the media can still influence and control teenagers like children, individuals were also vulnerable like children. The topic in my article is going to be emotional and I want the reader to also feel emotional and upset, therefore my I wanted my pictures to look dark so my model looked vulnerable. To do this I had to change the lighting of the room, I did this by turning the soft boxes down to a low light however it was still light enough to show my model.
This was how the studio looked first before I changed any of the lighting, these were test shoots to see if I liked how the images looked.
This is when the lighting was too dark because it was difficult to see my model, this also again was a tester shoot, I needed to check and see how my images looked because this is how they would look like in my magazine, I decided that the lighting was too dark.

This is when I liked the look of my lighting and this is the shade of lighting that I used.

The first pictures I started to take were the pictures about alcohol abuse. My article is about the effect of the media and my article has different sections, alcohol abuse was the first section I am basing a picture on.
I also made sure I was above my model, I did this because I wanted to make sure that my models eye line is below the middle margin, this makes my model looks vulnerable and that they are in danger. Therefore the picture links well to my article because I need my pictures to reflect and to match to what my article is about and I also need my pictures to set the tone of my article, this is why I have used a darker lighting and also my model looks small and sort of child like. She is sat in a child like position and looks small to show the venerability of her, the image is to portray how easily the media can hurt and effect individuals, like a child, the victims are easily influenced. The props I used for these pictures were old alcohol bottles and to make it seem more realistic I filled the empty vodka bottle up with water.

These are the next type of pictures I took, the props I used in these pictures were scales. These pictures are meant to represent the mental health illnesses the media can make an individual go through. In the first pictures I tried to fit my model into the whole photograph, however after I decided I didn't like how my pictures were looking like and therefore I decided to change it.
I started taking pictures like this, I preferred just having the models legs and the scales. However I decided I did not like this angle and therefore I took my photographs from another angle.

The next pictures I also took also link to the topic of mental health illness'. The type of poses my model used were effective because she has her head in her hands, she is covering her face. This shows signs of vulnerability and that she is scared. This also sets the tone of my article for the audience.
In this picture the props I used were a tape measure, most girls feel pressured about their weight from the media and that they need to be super model skinny and therefore these pictures represent that.
The last pictures I took were for my front cover, the model has lines on her face to show how the media pressures girls in wanting to chnage their appearance, therefore she's wearing gloves to replicate surgery. I had to take a lot of different pictures to get the right photo, this one it too close up.

In this photo my model is at the wrong angle. And therefore I didn't use this photo for my double page spread. This meant i had to take more pictures to get the right photo for my double page spread. Every time I took a picture i checked them to see if I liked the look of them, if I didn't i would either change the models pose and position or my position.

Beginning production of my product

In Photoshop I have developed my skills by using different tools for my front cover page for my DPS. I haven’t had my photo-shoot yet so I haven’t been able to use tools such as the retouch too and the dodge burn tool. However I have been able to use text control. This is my first attempt at making a front cover, however I didn’t really use any skills to try and make my skills look better and therefore it looked very basic, the only skill I have used in my first attempt was text tool. I downloaded various different fonts, however I have only use one type on my first attempt.
On my second attempt of creating a magazine front cover, I added more sell lines to make my Photoshop design look more realistic, I used different fronts for effect which I downloaded from websites such as www.dafont.com. I also was able to add fillers around my text, this is effective because it makes my text stand out and injects energy into my product, it is bright and therefore one of the first things my readers will see first, this is effective because it will catch the target audiences attention and draw them into my story. I did this by using the marquee tools, selecting it around my text, making a new layer and using the paint bucket tool to fill into the marquee. It is a simple effect however looks very effective and complex on my product.
I also have developed my skills by being able to create a sell button, by creating a sell button I was able to use some opacity skills such as drop shadow, stroke, colour overlay etc. these skills are effective because they develop the look of my text even further, they make my text look professional and also makes it stand out on the page. I am able to create drop shadows on my text and my sell buttons. This makes the text look like it is jumping off the page and is very effective because it grabs the reader attention and drags them into the story. In photoshop I have also learned the skills of layers, at first I didn’t understand that you had to make different layers for each object you added onto the page, this is why my first attempt looks very basic and all my objects on my page were on the same layer so when I tried to move one object they all moved. Therefore I started again and made different layers for every piece of different text and objects that are on my page, if I didn’t do this then it would be difficult to move the objects I needed to and this would become very stressful.
This was my first attempt of my DPS on InDesign, the skills that i have used in InDesign is margin and column guide creation, I used measurements from different magazines so that my magazine columns and margins will be around the same size as normal magazines. This is effective because again, this makes my DPS look more realistic and professional. The skills I also used for InDesign is inserting text on InDesign, you cannot copy and paste text into InDesgin and therefore you have to place it in, you have to create different text boxes before you add the text in so then you know where it is going to be placed. I also used skills such as text manipulation, this is resizing and rotating the fonts, I created a drop cap at the start of both my introductory paragraphs and I also used different fonts and sizes to create my header and kickers. My first InDesign attempt my DPS was too text heavy, this means that I won't have enough room for pictures, quote inserts and break out boxes. Therefore on my second attempt I have redrafted my article, however I need to write more because my article only fills up one out of two pages for my DPS.
I also was able to add in drop cap insert into both my articles, this is effective because it shows the reader where to start reading the text.

This is an photoshop design project that I did before Christmas, I made a Christmas card. I got an image off the internet and made it the correct size to fit my card without stretching or distorting the image. I downloaded snow flake stencils to use on my card and i also downloaded different brushes to make my background look good. The brushes allowed me to use different tones of colours and mix them well together.

1st draft and layout in InDesign

This is my first draft layout of my article, I know that I will need to re-draft my article because it is already too long and won't fit on my DPS and there is also not enough space for my pictures. In indesign I have learnt how to make the basic layout of my product, I was able to set up a page by using measurements from another magazine to create my margins. I was able to download different types of fonts that I wanted to include in my article. I was able to create a drop cap, which shows the reader where to start reading.
I also learnt when writing my article that there are different narrative voices used in magazines to get different effects from the reader, I also learned about the sematic field and how you can use words associated with things such as war and add it into your text.
To improve I am now going to re-draft my article so I will have more room for my pictures and quote inserts, I am also wanting too add in a break out box so I will need to make space for that. When I have done this I will create another InDesign layout so I can see if I have more space for my pictures. I also need to insert different backgrounds and textures to my layout, this will make my article look my interesting and will inject energy to my DPS.
