My first InDesign project
This is my first double spread that I made in InDesign. Firstly, in InDesign we experimented inserting pictures I learnt in InDesign you cannot copy and paste because this will make the picture blurred and pixelated. Therefore we had to save our pictures then insert them by placing them into the rectangle we made using the rectangle tool, we could adjust how big the rectangle frame was by using the selection tool and we can control how big the actual image was by using the direct selection tool. However I learnt you have to hold down the shift button when doing this or this can make your pictures look pixelated, stretched and not professional. I lined up my pictures by using the columns that I created to give me an outline and a guidance to where to put my pictures and text in straight columns. I learnt that in design you first write your text out in a word document and not actually in InDesign, firstly i made 4 separate columns using the rectangle frame tool and then places my text into it and i was able to change the font and size of my text. I also learnt how to add and create a drop-cap at the start of my paragraph which makes my text look more professional.

cross processing
This is the original image that I took and decided to edit.
Using the original image I made a new adjustment layer and started moving the red channel which I could move and adjust to darken shadows and brighten the highlights. Then I did the same with the blue channel which blocked some of the shadows, I didn't use a lot of the blue and I only used a little. I used green to increasing the contrast and highlights but only doing it a little. Then I was able to go on the combined channel called the 'RGB' where I was able to fine tune the bits I wanted to change.
Then I used a yellow colour fill with the opacity around 10% to give it a retro look, however I thought it looked a little to yellow and green.

Therefore I changed the yellow colour fill down to 7%

Shutter speed photo's experiment
We experimented with different types of shutter speeds, we went into a dark room with very little light and used torches. We put our camera around 5" which is 5 seconds for shapes and we used 10" which means 10 seconds for the names because they took longer to write. It also was harder to make our names with the torches because we had to write backwards so that the image was mirrored. We were able to capture these pictures with the torches because the shutter was on for longer enabling it to capture more light for longer before the picture was actually took because we were in a dark room the only light that was picked up was the torch light and also giving it a better looking background and therefore created these pictures.

This is the original, unedited image I took myself in the second photoshoot.
After this then I sharpened the image using the unsharpen mask and the amount was 119% with a radius of 2.2 pixels.

After this I used the dodge and burn tool, the burn tool enables us to darken the image and the dodge tool enabled us to lighten the image which can define the image.

3rd photography shoot
I also tried capturing different movement, I put the camera shutter at 1/500, I positioned myself in a t-stance which keeps my body more stern and this makes me able to lean the camera into me making it more stable.
I also took running motion pictures, I put the camera at 1/600 which means the camera takes the picture faster because the model is moving.
This is an example of when I made the shutter speed very short, I put it at 1/6000 this made the picture very dark and not in focus because the picture is being taken so quickly the shutter doesn't have a long time to stay open and only can get a little bit of light in but not enough to make the picture bright enough.
This is an example of when I was trying to use different things as frames, this puts a frame around my model this is effective because it draws attention and eyes to the subject.
This is an image of when I was trying to use backlight in my image, its effective because its usually brighter than the model and draws attention to the model.

I used framing for effect in some of my images, it creates a frame around the model and centres and draws the audiences eyes toward the model.

We also tried using the effects of lines, the line draws the audiences eyes towards the main purpose of the image which is my model, its effective because it draws attention to the centre.

I also tried using different angles to create effects for the image, I tried using the line of thirds in my images, this is effective because the line of thirds can create different interpretations for your model, for example if the models eyes are above the third line this can create a look of power and authority, however in the picture below if the models eyes are below the third line then this can create interpretations of venerableness, and weakness

Induction evaluation
Before starting my product I had to take
pictures of my model to put on the front cover, Lauren was my model. At first I
found it really difficult to use the camera and to get it into focus, we used
manual focus because it offers and gives us more control over the camera, I’ve
learn that using the zoom and focus enabled us to have a clearer and better
picture and lets us choose the picture e.g. head and shoulders instead of us
having to move. T-stance in photography helps to get a better picture it is
where you put your feet in a T shape and lean back. You get a better picture
and it looks more professional. I’ve learnt that portrait and landscape give
different pictures; portrait pictures are used for magazines and articles
whereas landscape is used for taking pictures of still life. We used lighting
in our pictures; we made sure the lighting was on the right hand side because
it gave better quality to our pictures. I didn’t really concentrate on the
background too much, there is one with a tree in it but that’s all really, the
background doesn’t look too bad but however it’s not really in focus anyway. We
did another photo-shoot and this time we focused on using more effects, for
example we used the line of thirds because this draws attention to the focal
point which is Lauren, if her eyes are above the third line this give
interpretations that she has power and authority alternatively if her eyes are
below the third lines then this implies she doesn’t have power. Also we used
different lighting to give different effects however in some picture the
lighting went really bad for example having too much lighting can distort and
make your pictures go really white and not very clear.
I used a lot of tools on Photoshop for
example I used the tool to add different shapes to add my text onto, different effects
on my text giving them shadows and making them look 3D. I found using Photoshop
quite difficult to use considering that I have never used it before, I found it
hard editing and adding text and making it the right size. My text, at first I
found it difficult to control my texts because I haven’t used Photoshop before
however I managed to get the hang of it. I also added effects and drop shadows
to my text because it makes it look more professional and more modern. I did
this by using the ‘fx’ tool and using the different buttons to control and
change my texts. We have downloaded numerous fonts from a website called
‘dafont.com’ we downloaded these fonts because it gave us a better variety of choices;
we choose different fronts for different effects on the audience. I would improve
my front cover by using the texts I’ve downloaded to give different effects and
interpretations on the audience. On my product its strengths was the picture
that I took because it’s a lot better than the ones I took during on in the
day, it looks professional and I’m proud of how it looks considering I’ve never
used a proper camera before. If I could change my front cover I would try and
make it look a little bit more realistic to one you may find on the
high-street.
