Blogger

This week in InDesign I have changed my layout once again, I had to re-write my article because my last one was too text heavy.  The only skills I have been able to show this week was that I am able to place my text into my text colums. I made spacing for where I wanted my pictures to go.
Again, during this week I was told my article is still too text heavy, therefore I had to edit and change it again. I edited my article so that it was able to fit onto one page.
This was effective because I was able to put one effective picture that I took as my background, this is effective because the image is creating the tone of my article, from first glance my audience will know it is a serious topic.
I also used language skills “do you know the truth?” this is a rhetorical question because my audience are not able to answer the question until they have read my article, this means my article is more persuasive to make the audience read it. This week in InDesign I have also been able to use different style fonts, I have learnt how to do this by downloading fonts of particular websites such as ‘dafont.com’
Its effective to have different types of font because bolder font makes my text stand out, therefore I have used sans serif font for my kicker because this makes it stand out and therefore injects energy into my article, it is the first thing my reader will see and therefore this will kick start the article. However my header isn’t as bold as my kicker, I think it needs to be bolder because this will stand out at the reader and draw them into my story.

This week I was also able to learn how to add text inserts, I am also able to make the text go around my  text but I am also able to control how much space there is between my text and my text inserts.
I am able to do this by using the text wrap tool, I did this selecting certain button for a different effect. The first button means that the text will go over the text insert, the other two lets you decide the shape of how it will look around your text. The text will either go around your text box in a square shape or they will fit around in a circle shape, it can also go above and under the text box and not around the sides or only above the text. I am able to control how close the text is to my text box also by using the different buttons on the screen. For my text insert I used the 2nd icon so that my breakout box looked squared, I also made the gap between the text and the box fairly big and therefore this meant you could see it easier.

During the week I was able to develop my skills even further, I was able to add multiple pictures in and using effect such as drop shadow I was able to make it seem as if they were jumping off the page, this is effective because it stands out and will be the first thing my audience look at, they set the mood and tone for the article.
I was also able to insert other things such as different backgrounds against my break out box, i was able to do this by inserting it in and making it go behind my text, it looks effective because it makes my breakout box stand out from all the other text, this shows that it is a separate piece of information however it still links to the article.

I also dramatically improved my front cover since the last time. This is what my front cover of my product looked like last time, it was before I did my photoshoot and therefore I didn't have any pictures to put onto my product.

This is what my product looks like now. I believe my product has improved a lot more than before.
Unlike my first InDesign product my last product now only have 3 colours, these colours go well together because the contrast each other and therefore I am able to use some colours as background for my text. I also believe my colours are effective because they are repetitive, on my first front cover was using 4 colours and I was also going to use white, this meant there was going to be 5 colours on my product and therefore this would mean it would be too much and look unprofessional. Most magazines use 3 colours and therefore by using 3 colours means my front cover looks professional and also you are able to identify the target audience. The colours used such as white and pink are more likely to be associated with girls, who are my target audience.
On my front cover I was also able to add an image, this is effective because this is the first thing the audience will see before reading my sell lines, therefore this meant I had to choose an effective image. The image I chose was to portray how the media makes girls feel so pressured that they have to change, the audience will be interested what my picture is about and therefore read my sell lines.
I used different types of language and text for my sell lines, this is effective because it will have different effect on the reader, using words such as 'you' applies to the audience and relates them to the article which means it is more relevant to them. I used different types of font to make my more important sell lines stand out such as "you are venerable" this is my most important sell line and therefore it is the one with bold text which makes it stand out but I also put a background around each word to make it more noticeable.
In photoshop I also learned how to fill in boxes with certain colours and used this as a background for certain sell lines, I usually did this on my sell lines which explain the main sell, this is important because they are explaining the main sell, which gives information of what they are about however they don't give enough information that the audience needs, this therefore is effective because it also brings energy into my sub sells.
In my front cover I was also able to add a skyline, this is the thing above all my text and at the top of my magazine front cover. I added this into my front cover because it gives additional information to what my magazine is about, it also makes it look more professional.
